Provence · November 2026

Provence in November: the quietest month of the year, and still mild.

Fewest crowds all year · Highs in the 50s–low 60s °F · No school holidays after Nov 8

November is when Provence empties out. In an average November the region logs about 2.4 million tourist nights, 14% of the August peak and 55% fewer than October. No month is quieter (Eurostat, 2023–25, hotels plus Airbnb-type rentals).

The trade-off is weather. Near Avignon, highs average 62°F in the first week and slide to 54°F by month’s end. Expect two to three rainy days a week, compared with about one in early October, though still around seven hours of sunshine a day.

French schools are back on November 2. The only foreign breaks are early: Bavaria until November 6 and Flemish Belgium until November 8. After that, there’s no multi-day school holiday in France, Germany, Belgium or the Netherlands for the rest of the month (service-public.fr, OpenHolidays).

Bottom line: go in the first week if warmth matters most. Go mid-month or later if you want the region nearly to yourself.

Things to do

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Half-Day Wine Tour (4 hours), from Avignon

A small-group trip, eight people at most, from central Avignon into the Rhône vineyards. You visit two wineries, often one family-run and one larger estate, and taste around ten wines in all. A stop at the ruins of the popes’ summer castle gives the best view over the valley. Guides get consistent praise for knowing the region’s history as well as its wine. No food is included, so have a proper breakfast or plan lunch for when you’re back.
