Provence, Normandy or Paris in November? Two Quiet Escapes and One City That Never Empties
Choosing between Provence, Normandy and Paris for a November trip? The three couldn’t be more different that month. We compared official visitor figures, ten years of weather records and school calendars to answer the questions that decide it.
Which is the quietest?
Provence drops to 14% of its August peak, its lowest point of the year, and Normandy falls to 20% of its own. Per resident, Normandy is the emptiest of the three, with about a third of a tourist night per local, against about half in Provence (Eurostat, 2023–25).
What about Paris?
November is one of the quieter months in Paris too, but there, quiet is relative. The Paris region still runs at 79% of its July peak, with about 8.4 million tourist nights in an average November, far closer to its summer levels than the other two (Eurostat, 2023–25).
Which has the best weather?
Provence, clearly. It averages 58°F highs, about seven hours of sunshine a day and two to three rainy days a week. Normandy and Paris both sit in the low 50s, with around five hours of sun, and Normandy gets the most rain, at three to four wet days a week.
Will school holidays get in the way?
Hardly. French schools go back on November 2, and the last foreign breaks, in Bavaria and Flemish Belgium, end by November 8. After that, no multi-day school holidays are running in France, Germany, Belgium or the Netherlands (service-public.fr, OpenHolidays).
The verdict
Pick Provence for the best mix of space and mild weather. Pick Normandy if having the fewest people around matters more than the forecast. Choose Paris if the city itself is the draw: November is calmer than most of its year, but it won’t feel like the off-season the way Provence and Normandy do.
